Albert is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Dora Kovac, Five children; Albert J. Kovac Jr; Sun City, Kim Kovac; Philadelphia, Kit Sturm; Phoenix, John and Sandra Kovac; Prescott, Kip Rustenburg; Phoenix. Twelve Grandchildren and 14 Great-Grandchildren.
Albert is also survived by two brothers and a Sister in Law; Rudolph Kovac, FL and Robert & Garnet Kovac, New York, several nieces and nephews.
Albert was born to Emerich and Agnes Kovac who had immigrated from what was then Czechoslovakia. Albert was born in Binghamton, NY and was the seventh of eight children. Albert was raised in Binghamton, NY, and joined the US Navy after graduating from Binghamton High School. Albert served in the Navy four years in various places, including Key West FL… Albert was also a Coast Guard Reservist in New York.
Albert and Dora (Luna) met in Syracuse, NY and married on Feb. 22, 1954… They had five children and lived in Syracuse, New York until moving to Arizona in 1967.
Albert was a Field Engineer with Honeywell and General Electric, until deciding to change his career and become a Teacher.
Albert attended Syracuse University, and went back to college, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Arizona State University in 1981… Albert finished his career as a Teacher for the Deer Valley Unified School District in Phoenix.
Albert was blessed with an artistic skill, he dabbled in oil painting, ceramics, and creating beautiful lapidary silversmith turquoise jewelry. Albert also had a skill with wood working and construction which was self-taught. He designed and constructed their first home in the 1960’s on the Seneca River in Jack’s Reef, outside Jordan, NY.
Albert had a passion for traveling. In the late 1960’s Albert took a job assignment in Diyarbakir, Turkey. During this time, Albert and Dora traveled all through Europe and the Middle East. Albert also had a love for Mexico, which is where Dora was raised, they both traveled throughout Mexico. Albert and Dora renewed their vows in 1968 at The Castle of Santa Cecilia in Guanajuato, which was one of their favorite cities in Mexico. They continued to travel to Mexico even into their later years.
Albert was an avid reader and had a passion for learning new things…. He would delve into areas of interest absorbing and learning all he could about them… One of his interests was his love for the Sea, and a passion for learning how to sail, reading and studying anything and everything he could about sailing, hoping to one day venture out on the open sea.
