SFC (Ret) Pedro "Pete" Rodriguez, 74 of Phenix City, Alabama, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2011 at his home. Funeral services with full military honors will be held Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. EDT at Philadelphia Baptist Church with the Reverend Skip Speed officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 3770 Hwy 431 N., Phenix City, AL. Burial will follow at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Mr. Rodriguez was born January 18, 1937 in Wharton County, Texas, son of the late Louis Rodriguez and Beatrice Quintero. He was retired after 23 years of active duty with the 101st Airborne, U.S. Army, where he served as Black Hat instructor. He later retired from the State of Georgia Department of Corrections, was Adjutant for the American Legion Post 35, a member of the V.F.W. Post 665 and a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church in Smiths Station, AL.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Wanda Newman Rodriguez of Phenix City, AL, sons, Gary Rodriguez, Ricky Rodriguez and wife, Vickie all of Tennessee, daughters, Jenni Henderson and husband, Christopher and Rebecca Rodriguez of Phenix City, AL, sisters, Trudy Workman and husband Oliver, Emma Hernandez all of Texas, brother, Samuel Flores of Texas, grandchildren, Ricky Rodriguez, Bionca Rodriguez, Larry Roberts all of Tennessee, Aiden Henderson and Bria Henderson of Phenix City, AL, numerous other extended family and friends.
