Nellie "Peggy" Mae Lewis, 87, of Phenix City, AL passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2023. Born February 23, 1936 in Hogansville, GA. She was the daughter of the late Loomus and Mattie (Simpson) Stringfellow.
Peggy was a loving daughter, sister, wife, grandmother and homemaker. Loved spending time with her family and was known by being a sweet lady.
Survivors include her loving husband, Billy J. Lewis; her loving son, William Curtis Lewis; and her loving 5 grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her son, Joseph Richard Lewis; her daughter, Teresa Ann Lewis; her sisters, Evelyn Cargill, Erma Trimm and Martha Cargill.
A special thanks to Enhabit Hospice Nursing Staff of Opelika, AL for taking care of Peggy so well and for all their support to her family during this difficult times.
A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held at Lakeview Memory Gardens, 3800 US-431 North, Phenix City, AL 36867 on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at 11:00AM. Rev. Mike Reeves will be officiating services. Family will visit with friends at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Lakewood Chapel, 3770 US-431 North, Phenix City, AL 36867 on Thursday morning from 10:00AM to 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Peggy’s memory can be made to Enhabit Hospice, 2312 Center Hill Drive, Suites B & C, Opelika, AL 36801 or Phenix City-Russell County Animal Shelter, 1706 4th Street South, Phenix City, AL 36869.
