Mary Fuller Pitts, 91 of Phenix City, AL died peacefully on Sunday December 18, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. EST Thursday December 22, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church in Phenix City, AL with Rev. Ralph Wooten officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby in Phenix City. Burial will follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery. Serving as pall bearers will be her grandsons and great grandsons. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Pitts was born March 16, 1925 in Smiths Station, Alabama; daughter of the late William Rowell and Cleo Baker Fuller. She was the owner of Mary Pitts Beauty Shop and was a member of First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Torch Bearers Sunday School Class, the U.M.W. and the Gideons Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and the Sweet Spirits Choir at Lakewood Baptist Church. Mrs. Pitts grew up in Smiths Station, but was a long-time resident of Phenix City. She was a volunteer for the Girls Scouts of America and worked with the Russell County Extension Service where she taught sewing at area county schools. She was a member of the D.A.R. and the U.D.C..
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Pitts, her brother, Royce Fuller, sisters, Velma Fuller and Cleola Watson and her son-in-law, Dr. Michael Burgan.
Survivors include her daughters, Doris Pitts Abbott and husband Alton of Smiths Station, AL, Debra Pitts Burgan of Columbus, GA, grandchildren, Alton E. Abbott, Jr. and wife Charlene of Cumming, GA, John C. Abbott and wife Sandy of Smiths Station, AL and their children, Christian, Tommy and JoJo Abbott; Emily Railey and husband Jeff of Augusta, GA, their children, Victory and Anderson Railey; William Michael Burgan, Jr. and wife Chelsea of Columbus, GA, their children, Cori, Kate and Laban Hart.
