Lucy lived a very full life. She was an artist, and created many beautiful paintings.
She spent time early on working at the Panama Canal Zone, in Hawaii, and
working at the community college in Watertown, NY. Most of her work life was in
Columbus, Georgia as a teacher with the Muscogee County School District. She
helped many young high school students to find their place in life. Along with
working at other schools, she worked at the Academic Success Center, and was
named one of the Top 4 Finalists for Muscogee County Teacher of the Year.
She was a member of the Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of the
American Revolution, and was a descendent of Stephen Hopkins of the
Mayflower. She was a member of Mensa.
She loved animals, and spent much time rescuing and helping them. She found
situations that needed help and stepped in to quietly help.
She enjoyed retirement life with her husband, Charles McGuffey, as they traveled
and camped. Or worked on their house out in the country.
Survivors include her loving husband, Charles F. McGuffey, Sr., her son Eric Alex
Davis, stepsons Charles F. McGuffey Jr. (Melissa), Matthew N. McGuffey,
stepdaughter Tami McDonald, brother James Edward Welch, Jr. (Gena), sister
Susan Hope Welch Krysak (Bill). She is also survived by four step grandchildren,
many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors. She will be greatly missed
