Joyce Elaine Day, 76 of Phenix City, Alabama died Thursday, August 24, 2017. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. EDT Sunday August 27, 2017 at Smiths Station Baptist Church with Rev. David Kees officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby in Phenix City, AL. A private burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
Mrs. Day was born July 17, 1941 in Covington County, Alabama; daughter of the late Arthur B. and Gracie V. Daughtry Owens. She was a homemaker and a member of Smiths Station Baptist Church since 1949 where she was a Sunday School Teacher, choir member and member of the senior adult choir. She was a strong woman of faith who was very much loved and respected by her family and church. Everyone who knew her was touched by her faith and was an inspiration to everyone who knew her.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Don Ellis Day, her daughter, Polly Elaine Johnston and her brother, Joseph Owens.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Glenn Rhodes of Phenix City, AL, sisters and brothers-in-law, Connie and Mike Watson, Diane and Donnie Renfroe; grandchildren, Daniel Rhodes (Sarah), Rachel Rhodes Jenkin (Anthony), Rebekah and Sarah Grace Johnston, four great grandchildren, Lily, Zachary, Ezra an Judah.
