Herbert L. Herring

Herbert L. Herring, 85 of Phenix City, Alabama died Thursday, June 2, 2016. Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M. Sunday, June 5, 2016 at Philadelphia Baptist Church with Rev. Skip Speed and Rev. John Rigby officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby in Phenix City. Serving as pall bearers will be his grandchildren, Delan Gaines, Rachel Ferguson, S. Mark Gullatte, T. Chase Gullatte, Timothy Herring and Micah Herring. Honorary pall bearers will be the deacons of Philadelphia Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. Sunday at the church. A private interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Herring was born January 18, 1931 in Salem, Alabama; son of the late John P. Herring, Sr. and Bessie Chadwick Herring. He was an active member and deacon of Philadelphia Baptist Church, was a broker for Herring Realtors, a member of the Crawford Masonic Lodge and the Bleeker Ruritan Club. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Herbert Timothy Herring, brothers, John Peyton Herring, Jr., Thomas Herring, Virgil Herring and Dallas Herring; sisters, Dorothy Whitman, Opal Ennis and Barbara Carlisle.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Evelyn Hutcherson "Jackie" Herring of Phenix City, AL, daughters, Susan Herring Phenix and husband Jimmy of Phenix City, AL, Donna Herring Gullatte and husband Gary of Salem, AL, son, Russell Herring and wife Jan of Phenix City, AL; sisters, Gerri Lowery of Troy, AL, Helen Williams of Phenix City, AL, grandchildren, Dr. Delan Gaines and wife Brandi, Rachel Gaines Ferguson, S. Mark Gullatte and wife Peyton, T. Chase Gullatte, Timothy Herring and Micah Herring; great grandchildren, Jackson Delan Gaines, William Herring Gaines, Elizabeth Dane Ferguson, Elizabeth Bayne "BB" Gullatte, numerous nieces, nephews and many special friends.
