Helen D. Hampton, 88, of Columbus, Georgia, died Wednesday September 21, 2011 in Phenix City, Alabama. Funeral services will be held Friday (today) September 23rd in the chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 3770 Highway 431 N, Phenix City, Alabama, 36867 with Father Gregory Wilde officiating. Interment will be in Ft. Benning Main Post Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hampton was born September 2, 1923 in Tatum, New Mexico, daughter of the late Erastmus T. Dunlap and Beulah Keithley Dunlap. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal church in Columbus, GA. and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Columbus Shrine Club. Mrs. Hampton was a former civil service employee at Ft. Benning, GA. Other than her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. Hampton.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Wade and Chyral Hampton of Spring Branch, TX., daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Don Freyburger of Lutz, FL., Mary and Gary Johnson of Phenix City, brothers, Kenneth Dunlap and Glen Dunlap, both of Arizona and Ralph Dunlap of New Mexico, 8 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
