David McDowell, age 85, resident of Phenix City, Alabama, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at his residence. Funeral services are scheduled at Lakewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, Phenix City on Tuesday, September 3, 2019, 12 p.m., with Reverend Wayne Ivey officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, September 2, 2019 from 6-8 p.m. Interment will follow the service at Lakeview Memory Gardens.
Mr. McDowell, son of the late O.Z. McDowell and Betty Lucille Bryant, was born May 19, 1934 in Columbus. He was retired from Swift Textiles where he faithfully worked for over 43 years. Mr. McDowell was a Baptist by faith, loved to golf, fish, and enjoy the outdoors. He was a man who lived life to the fullest, had a strong work ethic, always a giver to others, but most of all loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren.
Other than his parents, Mr. McDowell was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna Harrelson and Anita Rhodes.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, JoAnne McDowell of Phenix City, Alabama; two daughters, Lisa McDowell Allen and her husband Dale of Phenix City and Sheila Tate and her husband Joe of Midland, Georgia; two sons, Mike Martin and his fiance' Gaby Orozco of Phenix City, Alabama and Wayne Martin and his wife Claudia of Cataula, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Jeffry Martin, Heather Robb, Misty Kelley, Josh Rovig, Lindsey Woodall, Kyle Rovig, and A.J. Allen; seven great-grandchildren, Alex Jamieson, Hailey Martin, Andee Jamieson, Railee Rovig, Kennedy Woodall, Andi Rovig, and Zayne Woodall; many other relatives and friends.
