October 4, 2004 – April 10, 2025
With broken hearts and unimaginable sorrow, we announce the passing of Dane Dunn, beloved son, cherished friend, and radiant light in the lives of all who knew him. At just 20 years old, Dane was taken from us far too soon, leaving a space that can never be filled.
Dane was born with a spark — an energetic and loving spirit who brought laughter, kindness, and a smile that could light up any room.
From a young age, he loved anything that involved a ball, but baseball quickly became his true passion. His rise to All-Star status wasn’t just about natural talent—it was built on years of dedication, hard work, and genuine love for the game. More than anything, he cherished the connection he shared with his teammates, whom he considered brothers. He enjoyed both playing sports and spending time with his dad watching their favorite teams. His passion for the game was clear, but nothing meant more to him than his family. Their time together was filled with laughter, meaningful talks, and memories that will be cherished forever.
Dane attended St. Anne Pacelli School, Northside High, and Lassiter Academy Private School before going on to work alongside his father in the family fence business. He was a hard worker who took great pride in his work. He had a natural gift for connecting with customers and often said that fencing was in his blood—a legacy he was proud to carry on. Beyond work, he had a tender heart for his pets, who brought him comfort and companionship, and whom he loved like family. That same love and care showed in the kitchen, where he was a natural and it became a way for him to express his love and creativity, always sharing something special with those around him.
But perhaps what many didn’t know about Dane was his voice—strong and full of heart. He shared a deep love for singing with his mom, something that brought them even closer as he embraced his newfound passion for music.
Dane found his peace in nature. Whether it was a calm morning in the woods, fishing out on the water, or just walking through the park, it gave him a chance to slow down, clear his head, and appreciate the simple things. That same sense of peace is now with him, reunited with loved ones who passed before him.
Dane was preceded in death by his great-grandparents Charles Dunn of Phenix City, AL, Henry and Claudie Johnson of Smith Station, AL, Rosa Lee Daniels of Thomaston, GA, and Edna Storm of Ellerslie, GA, as well as his grandmother, Brenda Tew McCall of Valdosta, GA.
He is survived by his father, Thomas "Tommy" (Johnson) Dunn and mother Tracy Rena' Dunn of Columbus, GA, great-grandmother Gloria Dunn of Phenix City, AL, and grandparents Terrell “Terry” Dunn of Atlanta, Ga, Freddie and Debbie Manning of Columbus, GA, Vickie and Tommy Perkins of Ellerslie, GA — all of whom held a special place in his life.
Dane’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and light. He leaves behind a community of close friends and countless loved ones who will forever hold his memory close and carry his spirit in their hearts. Among those he felt especially connected to were his great grandmother, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Dane truly treasured the time spent with them and found great joy in their family gatherings — moments full of warmth, laughter, and love that he carried with him always.
A Celebration of Dane’s life will be held on April 15, 2025, 2:00pm at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Phenix City, where friends and family are invited to share memories, music, and love in honor of a life that touched so many.
Our hearts are with you as you are deeply loved by so many who truly miss you.
