Sylvia G. Garcia

Sylvia G. Garcia, age 77, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on April 25th, 2023, in McAllen, Texas. She was born on Friday, August 24th, 1945, in Pharr, Texas. Sylvia was a lifelong resident of Pharr and attended St. Margaret Catholic Church.

Sylvia was a wife, loving mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend.

She attended St. Margaret Mary Catholic School as a child. She also migrated to Caldwell, Idaho, with her family to work in the fields. She loved to dance and was always the life of the party. Sylvia enjoyed spending time outside, soaking up the sun and watching her novelas while enjoying a cup of coffee every night.

Sylvia worked at Wyatt's Cafeteria in McAllen for 22 years, as well as Luby's Cafeteria in McAllen. She retired from the Food Service Department at Edinburg CISD after 10 years of service.

Sylvia is survived by her son Oscar Jr (veronica) Garcia of San Juan, daughter Melissa (Joe) Alvarado of McAllen, son Orlando (melida) Garcia of Japan, son Omar (Ronnie) Garcia of Pharr, sister Beatriz Gutierrez of Pharr, brother Eloy (Yolanda) Gutierrez of San Antonio, brother Erasmo Sr. (Rosie) Gutierrez of San Juan, brother Samuel Gutierrez Sr. of Austin, and Emma (guillermo) Munguia of Pharr. Also left to cherish her memory are 13 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband Oscar Garcia Sr., mother Olivia C. Gutierrez, father Eugenio Gutierrez Sr., and brother Eugenio 'Gene' Gutierrez Jr.

The family will receive family and friends for visitation at Funeraria Del Angel Palm Valley in Pharr Texas on Sunday, April 30th, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM with a Rosary at 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be held on Monday, May 1st, 2023, at 10:00 AM at St. Margaret Mary Catholic church in Pharr, followed by a procession at 11:00 AM to her final resting place at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr.

Sylvia will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
