Martha Leal

Martha Yznaga Leal, age 84, of McAllen, Texas entered Heaven's Gates on Sunday, July 4, 2021. Martha was born November 4, 1936 in McAllen, Texas to the late Tomas Cecilio Yznaga and Concepcion Tijerina.

Martha was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was a woman of great drive, who was active, and vibrant. She had a forgiving soul, listened to all with an open heart, and criticized none- she was truly beautiful inside-and-out. She had a strong faith and was a devote Catholic and cancer survivor for the last 18 years. She was employed at Moore Air Force Base before their closing.

Martha was blessed to marry the love of her life, Dr. Ramiro Leal Cantu in 1962 and together they celebrated 39 beautiful wedding anniversaries until his passing in 2001. Martha had many qualities and one was the ability to raise her children with ease and control. Taking charge when needed but also ensuring they were nurtured and cared for. Martha resided in Monterrey, Mexico with her family for 45 years and returned to the Rio Grande Valley in 2007.

Martha had many hobbies but her favorite pastime included spending time with her family with whom she had a strong bond. She was accomplished in knitting, and crocheting. It was known, that twice a week Martha met with friends to play cards. She had a love for dogs and cooking, especially French cuisine and apple pies. She had a heart of gold and her unique personality, humor and generous soul will be greatly missed. She leaves with all those who knew her many wonderful memories.

Martha is survived by three children, Martha Yvette (Juan Javier), Ramiro (Ana Laura) and Eduardo; seven grandchildren Juan Javier, Alejandra, Ana Sofia, Mia Isabella, Sebastian, Nickolas, and Lucia Michelle; three siblings, Eva Y. Adame, Ana Y. Guerrero and Tomas Ernesto Yznaga.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Ramiro Leal Cantu; infant son, Jose; parents; and sister, Irene Y. Leal.

A viewing for Martha will be held Thursday, July 8, 2021 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Palm Valley in Pharr with a rosary being recited at 7:00 PM. A Catholic Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 9, 2021 at 10:00a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in McAllen with her interment scheduled to follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr.
