Ma as she was affectionately called by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren left this earth on May 1, 2023. She lived to be 95 years old and we could always count on Ma to be sitting on her recliner while she kept a watch on all her family. No one left the house without Ma asking where they were going, what time they would be back and most importantly, no one young or old would leave her home without her bendicion of “que les vaya bien.” And as we returned, she would always greet us with “que bueno que la llegaron.”
Some of Ma’s favorite past times included watching her favorite TV shows like Law & Order, any show with animals, cooking shows and home improvement shows. We could count on her having a running commentary on TV characters and she was quick to let us know her thoughts on the villains.
But Ma loved nothing better than enjoying a good meal. Her favorite hangout was Chili’s where she ordered hamburger sliders, chips, salsa. She had an adventurous palate and she would try any food once.
One of her last words she uttered was “Ama.” This gives us great comfort as we know that Abuelita and Abuelito were there to guide her home. We can picture her sitting at a dining table drinking coffee and eating biscuits surrounded by Abuelita, Abuelito, Dad, our brother Nune, her son-in-law Richard, grandchildren, her brothers and sisters and at her feet, her beloved cocker spaniel, Buddy. Rest in peace Ma.
