Maria Guadalupe "Lupita" Hernandez, age 89, of San Juan, Texas entered eternal rest at home surrounded by her beloved family as she wished on Tuesday, March 23, 2021. Lupita was born September 16, 1931 in Jalisco, Mexico to Florencio and Antonia Ponce.
Lupita was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother but to family and friends that know her best will remember her as an exceptional person. Lupita was a devout Catholic that lived her faith to the fullest. She met the love of her life in Jalisco, Mexico and together they were blessed to celebrate over 69 wedding anniversaries. Lupita was fortunate to enjoy her occupation and dedicated 27+ years as a cook at San Juan Nursing Home. Her life was devoted to her family and she loved spending time with them. Her interest included cooking, sewing and knitting, especially making dresses for her adored granddaughters. Simply stated, Lupita was a kind and giving person that will live in the hearts of all those she met. She leaves behind a legacy of lifelong friendships and many cherished memories.
Lupita is survived by her husband, Vicente Hernandez; daughters Raquel Santillan (Jose Luis); Rebecca Sanchez (Adan); Leticia Muro; and Maribel Kinlaw (Trey); granddaughter Dina Santillan Gongora (Johnathan), granddaughter Jennifer Vasquez (JR), granddaughter Ellie Santillan (Jesse Salinas), granddaughter Melissa L. Sanchez, granddaughter Julissa Muro, grandson Jacob Kinlaw, grandson Daniel Kinlaw, great grandson Taylor Santillan, great grandson Andrew Vasquez, great granddaughter Sara Vasquez and great grandson Ryan Gongora.
A visitation for Maria Guadalupe "Lupita" Hernandez will be held Thursday, March 25, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Palm Valley with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Palm Valley in Pharr. Her funeral mass will occur Friday, March 26, 2021 at 10:00 AM at St. John the Baptist in San Juan, Texas with her burial to follow at 11:00 AM at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens, 4607 North Sugar Road, Pharr, Texas 78577.
