PHARR - George Gauna Salazar, 89, went home to be with the Lord the morning of February 13, 2017 while surrounded by family. He was born on April 23, 1927 to Arturo and Ramona Salazar in Sample, Texas. George worked 35 distinguished years as an Immigration and Naturalization Service Inspector with the U. S. Department of Justice and was devoted to his country by serving in the U.S. Army. He is preceded in death by his wife, Alicia De La Cruz Salazar; brother, Epifanio "Chicho" Salazar; sisters, Maria Garza and Anatalia Guzman. He is survived by his children, George (Yvette) Salazar, Ruben Salazar, Nilda Salazar and Sylvia Salazar; his grandchildren, Kristy (Marc) Perez, Sandra (Erick) Lopez, Erika Salazar, George (Amy) Salazar, Trisha (Aldo) Salazar and Sarah Salazar. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Gabriel Morin, Michael Perez, Ava Salazar, Matthew Perez and sister, Martina S. Vela.He was a loving and dedicated father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who will be greatly and deeply missed. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 15, 2017, from 2-9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Palm Valley Funeral Home Chapel of Remembrance. Funeral service will be Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. St. Anne Church in Pharr. Interment to follow to Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr. Military honors will be conducted by V.F.W. Post 8788 from McAllen. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Palm Valley Funeral Home of Pharr.
