On Friday, June 16, 2017 William Robert Alexander, also known as “Bill” was called home in Austin, Texas surrounded by his five children, family and friends. “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” II Timothy 4:7-8
William (Bill) was born in Austin, Texas on January 17, 1937 to the union of the late Jack Alexander and Rosie Mae Joyner. William grew up in Austin (St. John) where he attended school and accepted Christ at an early age. He was baptized at St. John College Heights Baptist Church where Reverend A. C. Clark was Pastor.
William (Bill) and Annie Ray Chambers moved to San Francisco, California in 1959 where they were married. To this union they had three children: Cheryl, Zachery, and Tara. William worked tirelessly many years to provide for his family and retired from Guittard Chocolate.
Bill, also known as “PawPaw” to his grandchildren and great-grands, was a friendly, caring, and generous man who loved his family dearly as they loved him. Bill was also respected and loved by many friends and neighbors. Everyone knows Bill loved to have fun, was a great dancer and loved to “dress to the nines”. (He had a pretty nice collection on hats and boots as well).
William was preceded in death by his parents: Jack and Rosie Mae Alexander; two sisters – Mary Lee Evans and Dorothy Alexander Griffin and one brother, Jack (J.C.) Alexander.
William (Bill) is survived by his longtime companion, Charlene Jones and her family; Children from California – Cheryl Alexander, Zachery Alexander, Sr. and Tara Alexander Perez; Children from Austin - Linda Alexander and Walter Ross; Daughter-in-Law, Morena Alexander; Grandchildren - Erica, Shamari, Zachery, Jr., Mary Ann, Trevon, Cory and Kourtney; Great grandchildren - DaJéon (DJ), Elijah, Ange, Ashanti, Amari, Ja'Meer, Jailyn, Sister, Jessie Alexander Mercer, and a host of relatives and friends.
