Wendell Phillip Samuel, Sr., affectionately known as “Sam”, passed away in Austin, Texas on October 22, 2016 at the age of 84. Sam was born to Albert and Theordoshia Samuel in Darlington, SC on February 29, 1932. Wendell graduated from Mayo High school and would go on to attend Benedict College in South Carolina.
Sam faithfully served in the United States Air Force for 22 years and held positions in various capacities. However, his specialty and passion was as a cook where he served as the senior chef for the NCO. In addition to servicing his country, Sam had an endless love for bookkeeping, drinking coffee, and above all else, being of service to others.
Preceding Wendell Samuel, Sr. in death are his siblings, Edward Samuel, Mary Samuel, Bernice Samuel, Margaret Johnson, and Roperla Robinson.
On August 12, 1991 Wendell joined in holy matrimony with the love of his life, Debra Jackson. Prior to his marriage to the now Mrs. Samuel, he had the privilege of being the Father to Ternita F. Samuel, Wendell P. Samuel, Jr., Donald R. Samuel, Veronica Samuel-Durst, Theodore Samuel, Bobby Samuel, Bernadine Samuel and the late Gwendolyn Samuel. Later in his lifetime Sam would become the loving Father to Simon Samuel, Caretta Hill and Clifton Edmondson II.
Sam leaves to cherish his memory a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many extended relatives and close friends.
