Tommy Lee Poindexter was born on February 11, 1955 in Clarksville, Tennessee to the late Pearl Elizabeth Poindexter-Griffin and the late David Lee Northington. He attended public school in Clarksville, Tennessee and later moved to Killeen, Texas where he attended the Killeen Independent School District and was a graduate of Killeen High School as well as the first black male cosmetology graduate of Killeen High.
After completing school he married Lydia Miller and from that union one daughter, Mashecia Chontrell Miller, was born.
To further his career, Tommy moved to Austin, Texas where he was a dedicated employee of Austin State School and Austin State Hospital for over 35 years where he received numerous awards for his excellence as an administrative clerk.
Throughout his life, Tommy was recognized for his many accomplishments. He was the youngest Master Mason in the State of Texas. He received the Presley Ridge award for Foster Parent of the year in 2010-2011. Tommy was a member of Morning Glory Church of God in Christ under the Pastor Frederick Patterson. He was a member of the men’s choir and later transitioned as the leader of the Feed the Homeless Team. Being a part of his community, playing Bingo, traveling, and spending time with his sons, Billy and Jonathan Poindexter, are the things he loved to do.
On October 11, 2019, Tommy Poindexter was called home. He was preceded in death by his parents, David Lee Northington and Pearl Poindexter Griffin. He leaves to cherish his memory and love one daughter Mashecia Miller of Killeen, Texas, two sons Billy Poindexter of Manor, Texas, and Jonathan Poindexter of Waco, Texas. Four brothers Donald Osborne and Mark Northington (Brittzza) both of Clarksville, Tennessee, Michael Northington (Thitma) of Alabama and James a Broadie of Indianapolis, Indiana. Three sisters Debra Lewis-Northington, Donna Blake (Jerry) both of Clarksville, Tennessee and Charlene Stubbs (Anthony) of Chicago, Illinois. Two grandchildren Myah Miller, Micah Robinson both of Killeen, Texas and two great-grandchildren Chloe and Avyannah of Killeen, Texas and a host of neices, nephews, dearly loved relatives and friends.
