Thomas H. Purcell

Thomas Purcell traded in his failing 59-year-old body for a perfect, ageless, heavenly body on April 15 2013. Tom is now in the presence of the Lord and singing the Lord's praises to his heart's content. All of us in his family look forward to reuniting with him when the Lord calls us home.

Tom was born in New York City in October 1953 and grew up in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He moved to Texas and attended Baylor University's Hankamer School of Business. He graduated with a BBA in 1975 and and MBA in 1977. Many of the highlights of his Baylor years involved singing in Euell Porter's Chapel, Concert, and A Capella choirs. Tom loved singing, especially singing praises to his Lord.

After graduation, Tom worked for the State of Texas as an auditor for Texas Education Agency. After his early retirement, he was an elections judge for Williamson County for several years. He also was a secret shopper, mainly for local banks.

Tom was an avid softball player. He was also an umpire for many years in the Austin area.

Tom was incredibly protective of his family. When his children were born, they never left his sight in the hospital when they were away from their mother, and he looked after for his elderly Aunt Ellin's needs until her passing. Tom was generous with family and friends; once he quietly purchased a washer and dryer for a family in need. He was scrupulously honest; even a penny of interest earned on a checking account was reported on his taxes.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lillian Purcell. He is survived by his brother, Allan; his wife of 26 years, Dawn; son, Brian; daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and David Twilleagerd; and granddaughter, Cadence Twilleager.

Tom spent his final 18 days of life in the compassionate care of Hospice Austin's Christopher House. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice Austin or to First Baptist Church of Georgetown, where he was a member.
