Funeral services for Sergeant Major Thomas Leon Harper will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 6, 2014, at the Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville, Texas. Committal with full military honors will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery. Sergeant Major Harper passed away unexpectedly on August 28, 2014.
Born June 23, 1970, in Duncan, Oklahoma, Thomas was the son of Francis M. and Mardie (Thomas) Harper. He was preceded in death by his father, and his Grandmother Harper. Thomas is survived by his wife of 15 years, Anna Harper and their son, Aryn Todd Harper of Hutto; two daughters, Brooklynn Renee Harper of Amarillo and Heaven Leigh Farias of Hutto; sons, Bryan Lee Ledesma of Hutto and Logan Harper of Amarillo; along with four grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother and one brother, along with other family members and many dear friends.
Sergeant Major Harper was currently stationed with the Wylie National Guard in Wylie, Texas and had 26 years of service with the U. S. Army. He served during Desert Storm. He had attended Amarillo College and was a graduate of the University of Phoenix. Thomas also had a law enforcement background and was a TDC Correctional Officer, Potter County Detention Officer, and officer with the City of Dumas Police Department. He was also associated the Travis County Precinct One Constables office.
A true lover of people, Thomas enjoyed entertaining friends and family, especially when a grill was involved. He was known for his bar-b-que and was a fantastic cook. He was passionate about his cars, and loved to play golf and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Friends may pay their respects from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Friday, September 5, 2014 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville.
