Stewart Rogers Buckingham, age 53, passed away Monday October 11, 2021, at his sister’s home in Lakeway, Texas. He was surrounded by his family and we are grateful for the special loving time spent with him.
Stewart was a graduate of Travis High School and the Clifton Career Development School, where he learned basic life skills. He lived in a group home for a year and contributed to the household chores and rules so he could qualify for living on his own. It was a long year but paid off with the admission into the CLASS Program and an apartment of his own. Stewart was very independent and learned his way around Austin with the city bus line.
He was a huge sports enthusiast and could be found at UT’s football, baseball, softball, and volleyball games. He had countless friends including athletes and staff and was well known on campus. Stewart was often referred to as UT’s #1 Fan and the good luck charm for the volleyball team.
Stewart always loved music and enjoyed writing songs and recording with his music therapists. He had hoped to get his songs copyrighted one day and share his music with the world. Especially if he could go on tour!
A big shout out to the Arc of the Capital Area and their CLASS program, Touch of Class service provider and Altus Hospice. You all were instrumental and essential in helping Stewart have the best life possible. Also his doctors, nurses and staff, you all were amazing and Stewart loved you. We all thank you!
Stewart is predeceased by his mother, Dorothy Buckingham, brothers, Michael and James Jones. He is survived by sisters, Jenny Stupka (Jonathan) of Lakeway, Texas, Laura Jones of Austin, Texas, Mary Wilson (Brian) of Winter Garden, Florida, Cassandra Sutto (Ron) of Hastings, Michigan, Lynn Walker (Kim) of St Neots, England and brother, Stephen Buckingham (Mary Jayne) of Bastrop, Texas. We would also like to include his good friend John Gallagher of Dundee, Michigan and longtime caregiver, best friend and “roommate” Joshua Mueller.
A celebration of life for Stewart will be held on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in the Walden Room of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
We invite everyone to attend his celebration of life and If possible, please wear a Longhorn, Cowboys or Rangers shirt, in his memory. The service will be led by family friend, Pastor Robert McElwaine, Leander Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you give back to the community in your own special way.
