Shurley loved helping people and taking care of others so much that she chose that as a profession; she was a Registered Nurse for 43 years. Shurley graduated from the Brackenridge Hospital School of Nursing in 1962. Shurley worked for 18 years as a Cardiac Intensive Care Nurse at Seton Medical Center in Austin, Texas. The accomplishment she is most proud of is being part of the medical team that performed the first heart transplant in the region in 1986.
Shurley served with Girl Scouts for 15 years leading various scout troops and being the camp nurse at Camp Texlake. She was also a charter member of Hope Presbyterian Church and an active member in health ministries and missions.
Shurley loved being a world traveler in her retirement years. Her travels included Cozumel, Belize, Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, England, Scotland, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Greece, the Holy Land, Russia, India, and China.
Shurley spent most of her adult life living in Austin, but in her later years she moved to Houston to be close to her daughter, Donna. During the 11 years she spent in Houston, she was involved with the book club, game club, and coordinated various excursions for the retirement community where she lived. She was also the Queen Mum of the Red Hat Society in the community.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna (Robinson) Jouglard and husband, Greg, of Lyon, France; nephew, Michael Ray Wilkinson and wife, Sandra (Gaddis) Wilkinson, of Richardson, Texas, and her niece, Vicki (Wilkinson) Hall, and husband, Brian, of Keller, Texas.
Shurley is preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Samantha Sue (Robinson) Tucker of Cedar Creek, Texas; John S. Robinson III of Cedar Creek, Texas who was her husband of 15 years and father to her two daughters. She is also preceded in death by her identical twin sister, Laura Leigh (Tucker) Wilkinson and husband William Guy of Double Oak, Texas; her mother, Mary Sue (Mayberry) Tucker of Carrolton, Texas, her father, Loy Benjamin Cross, and adopted father George Benton Tucker of Corpus Christi, Texas.
Visitation for Shurley will be held at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks in Pflugerville on Friday, February 25, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Funeral Services will begin at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 26, 2022, with Greg Jouglard officiating. Burial service will immediately follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 2, 2022, 11:00 a.m. at Cy-Fair Christian Church, 9730 Grant Road, Houston, Texas 77070. Dale Smith will officiate the service.
