Shirley, the eldest daughter of John D. and Verna Mae Steele was born on June 28, 1933 in Abilene, Texas where she grew up with her sisters, Harlean and Sharon.
Shirley met the love of her life, Kenneth Ray Webb on a blind date in September of 1951 and two weeks later they were engaged. They married December 30, 1951 and were married for over 65 years at the time of her death.
She is survived by her husband Kenneth, and their children, Debby Webb Baker, Cindy Webb Roberts & husband Ronnie, Susan Webb Lucas & husband Tom and Steven Ray Webb & wife Conna along with 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son-in-law, Gary Baker. She also leaves behind her sisters, Harlean Steele Cutbirth and Sharon Steele Herrell & husband Charles. She will also be missed by her BSF bible study church family.
Over the course of their 65 years together they relocated throughout Texas, eventually settling in Austin in 1971. Shirley devoted her life to raising her family and later joined the workforce for over 10 years before retiring. After Kenneth retired from the Texas National Guard in March of 1987 they made many memories together traveling the world, enjoying cruises and researching their family tree. They shared their love and devotion with family on a cruise in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary in December of 2001.
Shirley was a remarkable woman who could accomplish anything she desired. She was an excellent seamstress, an avid reader, enjoyed painting, square-dancing, playing games, traveling, researching genealogy, making everyone laugh and have fun.
Shirley’s love of family and life, outgoing personality, contagious laughter and ever-present smile will be missed. Her devotion to Kenneth and the example she set in love, life and worship is something for all to emulate.
