Ruby Gage was born Ruby Beatrice Stephens in Nursery, Texas on August 16, 1922 to Daniel T. Stephens and Dora Neely Stephens. She was married to Joseph Z. Gage on June 10, 1942 in San Antonio. Ruby was deeply committed to her husband, who was a United States Air Force Master Sergeant. During the first few years of their marriage, they lived in Waco, San Antonio, Indianapolis, Sumter, South Carolina, and Jamestown, North Dakota before retiring in Austin, Texas.
Ruby was a long time member of the Assembly of God faith and devoted her life to serving her Lord by always taking care of others in His name. After the death of her husband of fifty years, she began a new chapter of her life and worked as a Greeter at her local HEB store from 1992 until 2009. She was well loved by not only her coworkers, but also her neighborhood customers.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband; parents; daughter, Dora Louise Thompson; brothers, D.T. Stephens, Howard Stephens, and Benny Stephens, and sisters, Dora Stephens and Mae Orrick.
She is survived by her son, Kenneth Gage (Clydene); son-in-law, Donald Thompson; grandchildren: Michael Thompson (Julie), Patrice Hicks (Peter), Jennifer Layer (Adam), and Joseph Gage (Phylis); 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Lee Lawson, Elizabeth Ange, and Elaine Riggs, and countless nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of her life is planned for Saturday, October 31, at 1:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow in Cook-Walden Memorial Hill Cemetery. Please visit www.cookwaldencapitalparks.com for online tributes.
