Roy Milton Harrison was born on July 19, 1945 in Taylor Texas to Wash Harrison Sr. and Callie Norwood. He was the youngest of 9 children and was a loving known as “Cookie” by his family. The Family relocated to Austin, TX shortly after his birth. Roy was educated in the Austin Independent School District and was a proud member of the “Old” L.C. Anderson School Class of 1965.
After his high school graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1965 and completed a tour of duty in Vietnam. After his military service ended, he returned home and married Sharon Evans. To this union a daughter, Chelsea Erika, was born. In 1970, Roy began his career at Southwestern Bell, now known as AT&T. In 1988, he married Paula Fowler and together they raised a daughter and a son, Paul Alan Turner. He worked there for 30 years until he retired for health reasons. He spent his retirement years faithfully serving in the ministry.
Roy accepted Christ at an early age. He was called into the Ministry after rededicating his life to Jesus Christ. He served as an associate Minister at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church. While serving at Mt. Olive as an Associate Minister he was called to serve as Pastor at Mount Pilgrim Baptist in Austin, Texas. In 2008, he received his Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies from Mount Olive Bible Institute. He later answered the call to serve at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Temple, Texas.
Through he possessed many gifts and talents from the Holy Spirit, Evangelism was an area which Roy whole heartedly embraced as it afforded him the opportunity to share his love for the Lord with all he encountered on his journey. He worked diligently to ensure they knew he served an awesome God. When their conversation came to a close, they knew what it looked to be saved.
Roy also served with the Baptist Minister’s Union of Austin and Vicinity and the Foreign Missions Board until his health failed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters Rosie Lee Robinson, Ruth Porter, and Doris Taylor, five brothers, Ernest, Chester, Arthur Lee, Wash Jr. and Howard Harrison.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife Paula, his daughter Chelsea Erika Jernigan (Steffon) of Stockbridge, GA and son Paul Alan Turner, of Austin, TX; mother in law Ms. E.E. Fowler, father in law Harold Fowler Sr, both of Austin; two grandsons Deverone Harrison of Ft. Worth and Brevin McPherson of Stockbridge; two granddaughters Alexis Turner of Austin Arianna Turner of Manor; two bonus granddaughters Alexandra and Adelina of Manor; one great granddaughter Nayeli Turner- Smith of Austin; five sisters in law Haroldette Miller and Deborah Jones both of Austin; Diane Johnson (Michael) of Kyle; Lori Dillard (Cleve) of Texarkana, AR; and Elaine Fowler of Round Rock; three brothers in la Mark Fowler, Kenneth Fowler of Philadelphia, PA and Kevin Fowler of Killeen, TX; and mighty host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
