He was born in Waxahachie Texas on December 7, 1945 to Joe and Juanita Bailey. After living in Italy, Texas, New Mexico, and California, Ronnie graduated in 1964 from Brownsville High School and attended Texas Southmost College in Brownsville, Texas from ’65 through ’70. He married the love of his life Lannette Powers in January 1969.
In his youth, Ronnie progressed through the Boy Scouts of America program becoming an Eagle Scout achieving the Order of the Arrow. He held a leadership role in the Order of DeMolay as Master Counselor. He was a long-time member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks lodge #1032 in Brownsville, again achieving multiple leadership positions.
After school, Ronnie began working for Metropolitan Life Insurance Corp. He later opened his own insurance agency. Over his lifetime he owned additional businesses including a full-service laundromat plus several construction companies. After moving to the Austin Texas area, he began a career in print production and retired from Xerox Corp. in 2007.
Ronnie was a member of both First Baptist Church in Brownsville, Texas and Calvary Baptist Church in Brenham, Texas and had a deep and abiding love of God and his family.
Ronnie is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years Lannette Powers Bailey; his son Talbert Bailey and Talbert’s family including wife Elizabeth, daughter Eleanor, and sons Dawson and Turner of Austin; his daughter Lana Bailey Stone and Lana’s family including husband Cliff and sons Strider and Kieron of Cedar Park; his sister Sheila Earley and her husband Judd of Garden Ridge; his nephew Bill Earley and wife Cheri who live in the San Antonio-Cibolo area along with their three children Billy, Alyssa and Nick, and Bill’s five grandchildren.
Family who has predeceased Ronnie include his father Joe L. Bailey and mother Juanita Bailey, both of Brownsville; and his brothers-in-law Bobby and Billy Powers.
Burial will be in Buena Vista Cemetery, Brownsville Texas, on October 23 at 11:00 a.m.
