Robert Lee Pope, 73, of Pflugerville, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on November 1, 2024. Born in Columbus, Texas on March 31, 1951, Robert was the 3rd child of 6 to Freddie Bell Orise-Barnet and Alvin Pope. He accepted Christ in Antioch Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend E.N Franklin. Raised in Luling, Texas, he attended Rosenwald School and later graduated from Luling High School in 1970 after integration where he played football and ran track and later went on to pursue an education in applied sciences, earning his associate degree in 1977.
Robert proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, where he was honorably discharged after four years of service. His career included working for the U.S. Postal Service and later as a truck driver, where he spent many years traveling and forging friendships along the way.
He was a devoted father and grandfather, and is survived by his son, Ricardo Pope, and Ricardo’s children; his daughter, Krystal Pope, and her son; as well as his Aunt Nellie Orise Jenkins and his beloved sister, Doris Greene. Robert was preceded in death by his two sisters, Ruby Robinson and Mamie Wilson, who passed before him.
Robert will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering dedication to family, and his generous spirit. He lived a life full of resilience and kindness, touching the lives of everyone he met. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, but his memory will continue to live on in their hearts.
A private family memorial will be held to honor his life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to a charity of your choice in Robert’s name.
