

Richard Allen Rounds was born on September 4, 1941, in Seattle, Washington to Theodore Leroy Rounds and Mildred Moen Rounds. He was the youngest of three children. In his youth, Richard and his family lived in Wolf Point in eastern Montana where his parents owned and operated a local restaurant. He graduated from high school from Dawson County High School in nearby Glendive, Montana in 1959 and attended the University of Montana in Missoula where he graduated in 1963 with a degree in History and Political Science.
Following his graduation from University of Montana, he moved to Santa Clara, California to live with his older brother Jack and work as an auditor for Bank of America. During his career, he traveled to many places around the globe including South America, Central America, Asia and India.
While working for the bank in Miami, Richard met Anita Herman McIntire who was also working for Bank of America and living there with her daughter Melinda. They bonded over their shared love of travel, history and art. In 1976, they married in Fairfield, Connecticut and soon moved as a family to Hong Kong. He took Anita and Melinda to many of the places in Asia he had visited and was inspired by.
Upon returning to the U.S., the family moved to New York and Richard continued to work for Bank of America. He and Anita would also lived in Raleigh and Atlanta before eventually retiring to Scottsdale, Arizona. They also enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and Canada exploring north America and connecting with friends and family.
Richard was a devoted husband and stepfather and discovered the immense joy of being a grandfather to Sasha. In 2021, he and Anita moved to Round Rock, Texas to be nearer to them. Richard and Anita were happily married for 46 years until her death in September 2022.
He believed strongly in respecting and protecting the natural environment, becoming a life-long member of the National Geographic Society starting at age 12. He also loved history and was a long-time member of the Smithsonian. Richard was a voracious reader, having read thousands of books, especially about history and historical fiction. Richard was an excellent cook and enjoyed making gourmet meals for family and friends.
At the time of his death, Richard was survived by his stepdaughter Melinda Krigel, his son-in-law David Krigel, his granddaughter Sasha Krigel, all from Austin Texas, his sister Joyce Corbett of Kalispell, Montana and his many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grand nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Anita Ruth Rounds and his brother John Marvin “Jack” Rounds.
