Richard Arlen Cawthon was called home by our Heavenly Father on July 16, 2013, following several months of declining health. Richard was born June 14, 1930 in Waco, Texas to Dorothy Lois (Pringle) and James Fulton Cawthon, Sr.
He lived in the Waco area until he was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. Upon his honorable discharge as a Corporal, he returned to Waco and attended Baylor University majoring in physical education. He had a fulfilling career with the Texas Department of Transportation for more than 35 years in Wichita Falls, Bellville and Austin.
On January 30, 1960 he married Dorothy Lee Dobesh and on September 14, 1967, they had a lovely daughter and named her D’Arlen Lorena to honor both parents and her maternal grandmother. Richard and D’Arlen enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys together. In 1977 the family moved to Elgin, Texas and built a home doing most of the construction themselves.
He was blessed with two grandchildren Hunter Arlen and Ciara Blynn Tumey. They were the joy of his life and they spend many vacations together.
Richard loved the Lord and was a devoted Christian. He believed his greatest accomplishment was serving as a deacon at the University Hills Church of Christ and later at the Elgin Church of Christ.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father-in-law Lorena and Adolph Dobesh, sister-in-law Paula Cawthon, and sister-in-law Alma Kucera and husband Robert.
