Deacon Nelson Hargrove, Jr. was born December 13, 1941 in Taylor, Texas to the late Louise and Nelson Hargrove, Sr. He accepted Christ at an early age and dedicated decades serving the Lord at Greater Swenson Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Notable areas of service at Greater Swenson Grove includes but are not limited to: Superintendent of Sunday School, Chairman of the Deacon Board, Finance Secretary, as well as many years of service with Brotherhood, Male Chorus, and the Sanctuary Choir.
Nelson was drafted into the United States Army on December 4, 1963, where he served in Vietnam. He married Charlene Williams shortly thereafter, on December 27, 1963, in Austin, Texas. From Nelson and Charlene’s union two daughters and three sons were born.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Louise (Zachary) and Nelson Hargrove, Sr., three brothers Arthur Lee Hargrove, Larry Shannon Hargrove, Joe Louis Hargrove Sr., and sister Velma Hunter.
He leaves to cherish his memories two daughters and three sons: Angela (Ted), Charlotte Dennene (Samuel Sr.), Nelson Derwin (Dana), Aaron Bryant (Stayce), and Jonathan (Samina). Sixteen grandchildren: Perry, Janee’ (Antwan), Olivia (Anthony), Victoria, Aaliyah, Vincent II, Erin, Desmond, Sydney, Aaron Jr., William, Decklyn, Samuel Jr., Drelan, Destany, Ephraim; six great-grandchildren: Lailah, Ja’nya, Kennedi, Roman, Maurice, and Malik; five brothers: Alonzo (Esther Jo), Roy Lee, Leroy, Floyd, and Jerry; two sisters: Lillie (Thomas) and Anita (Ray) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
