He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Jackie Grover Moyer. Michael’s first wife and the mother of their four sons, Mary Stote Moyer, passed away in early 1997 after 37 years of marriage. His surviving children and their spouses are Pam and Dennis Wiley of Keller, TX; Mark and Cyndy Moyer of Westport, CT; Robert and Teresa Moyer of Pflugerville, TX; Rev. Joseph Moyer, C.S.C. of Sherman Oaks, CA; and Matthew Moyer who is currently working in Kabul, Afghanistan. Michael is survived by his three sisters: Katie Foley of Hampton, VA; Sister Marie Eileen Moyer, SSJ of Erie, PA; and Patricia and her husband Alan Lacy of Milwaukee, WI. Michael is also survived by nine grandchildren.
Michael was born in Schenectady, NY; the first child of Elmo and Suzy Moyer. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1955 and received his Masters in Business Administration from the University of Kentucky. After serving in Korea with the US Army’s Counter Intelligence Corps, Michael worked for IBM for over 30 years then formed his own consulting and training firm which he lead up until his death. Michael was also an adjunct professor of business at Baylor University in Waco, TX, having previously taught at Our Lady of the Lake University of San Antonio and St. Edward’s University of Austin, TX.
Michael was instrumental in a number of professional and charitable endeavors including: founder and president of the Notre Dame Alumni Club of Austin; founder and president of NAPM-Austin; co-founder of the Materials Management Group; president of the Serra Club of Austin; president and treasurer of the St. Vincent DePaul Society; member of the St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church Building Committee; and he held numerous positions at the Unit and Council level of the Boy Scouts of America.
Among Michael’s many recognitions, he was most proud of being awarded the Lumen Gentium by the Diocese of Austin for living the Gospel message in his everyday life and Scouting’s Silver Beaver award for outstanding longtime service to youth.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 7, 2011 at Cook-Walden Funeral Home located at 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, TX 78660 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm with recitation of the Holy Rosary to follow at 7:00 pm.
The funeral mass will be conducted on Tuesday, February 8, 2011, 11:00 am at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church located at 9500 Neenah Avenue, Austin, TX 78717. Officiating at as Celebrant, will be his son, the Reverend Joseph M. Moyer, C.S.C.
