Mary Mahoney

Born February 14, 1950, in Columbus, Ohio, Mary obtained her B.A. in Philosophy from Ohio Wesleyan University (summa cum laude). Mary obtained a Ph.D. in Political Philosophy from the University of Chicago, a prestigious graduate school which at the time was accepting very few, if any, women in her chosen field. She graduated and went on to teach at several universities. Thomas Aquinas, Thucydides and Aristotle remained her lifelong passions. She later went on to become a technical writer.

Mary participated in a number of book clubs, chess clubs, and Catholic charity projects. She served as a Sunday school teacher and taught catechism classes through a local Catholic church. She was also a member of Saint Louis King of France Catholic Church of Austin, Texas.

Mary was preceded in death by her brother, Danny Mahoney; and her son, Matthew Brendan Bohr.

She is survived by her daughter, Judy Bohr, Austin, TX; her best friend and former husband, Michael Joseph Bohr, Waco, TX; three sisters-in-law, Linda Mahoney, Columbus, OH, Colleen McGuire, Arlington, VA and Mary Jo Bohr, Chicago, IL; brother-in-law, Kevin Bohr, Arlington Heights, IL; nephew, Michael McGuire, Arlington, VA; along with other extended family and many dear friends.

Friends may pay their respects from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville, Texas. A funeral Liturgy of the Word service will follow at 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with committal services following at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery. Due to the current COVID protocols, guests are required to wear protective face masks at all times and practice the recommended six foot social distancing.
