Maria Barbara Torres

Maria B. “Vita” Torres, 73, of Round Rock, TX, passed away May 5, 2019, surrounded by her loving children. She was born in Durango, Mexico on December 4, 1946 and moved to the Austin, TX area in the 1970’s. She married the late Juan R. Torres in 1966 and they enjoyed fifty-one years together.

Maria was the fierce matriarch who was present at the births of her thirteen grandchildren. She was a regular fixture at her grandchildren’s sporting events, band concerts and graduations. Maria also enjoyed travelling and visiting with her extended family in Mexico and remained very close to her siblings, nieces and nephews. She was a master seamstress who often created beautiful clothing based magazine photographs submitted by her daughters; her daughters always wearing the most beautiful dresses. Maria was also a voracious reader who once wrote a novel.

Maria is survived by six of her seven children: Juan Torres-Gonzalez, of Round Rock, TX; Griselda Nunez, of Austin, TX; Imelda Torres-Laborde, of Conroe, TX; Sandra Sarty-McDougal, of Spicewood, TX; Susan Rosete of Round Rock, TX; and Virginia Torres-Grimaldo, of Pflugerville, TX. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Maria was predeceased by her husband Juan in 2017. A mass in her honor will be held on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church – 1520 N. Railroad Ave. Pflugerville, TX 78660.
