Beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Maria Angelina Gonzales, “Angie” passed away Sunday, August 9, 2020 after a brief battle with the Covid-19 virus. Angie was born in Austin, Tx. On January 25th, 1951, she was 69 years old.
She was the daughter of Sabina and Antonio Martinez of Austin, Tx. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her older sister Olivia Amaro “Leecha” of Channelview, and most recently by her son, Daniel Anthony Linan, Sr. “Danny” of Austin, in 2015. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Rafael Gonzales of Round Rock, Tx., her daughter, Michelle Compton, husband Frank of Pflugerville, her Granddaughter Catherine Danielle Morales, husband Martin of Pflugerville; Grandsons Daniel A. Linan II, of Austin, Zachary Compton of Pflugerville, and Adam Compton of Pflugerville; great-granddaughters Crisyana Bentzel and Cali Morales of Pflugerville; her eldest sister Elida Vital “Nena” of San Benito, Tx., numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and countless friends. Her grandchildren and great-granddaughters were the light of her world.
Angie retired from the State of Tx. Comptroller’s office in 2016 after 23 years of service. Prior to that she worked for the IRS as a data transcriber for 15 years. She married briefly and had her two children shortly after graduating from A.S. Johnston High School in 1969. She was single for a handful of years while raising Michelle and Danny on her own and caring for her mom in Montopolis. Her tight group of girlfriends’ nick-named her the “dancing machine”, and after taking nearly half a day for hair, makeup and fashion she’d hold up to that nickname!
In 1978 she met and married the love of her life Rafael and they rarely left each other’s side for the next 40 years. She loved watching Danny in sports and Michelle in HS Drill team, but her ultimate joy would come when following her grandsons playing baseball and tennis and holding her great-granddaughters every chance she got. Little would compare though to her heart’s joy when she held her first grandchild Catherine. Her bear hugs were the best embraces you could ever get, and she passed that trait down to her son Danny. If she’s not showing in a video, but you hear her laugh, you’ll know she’s there, she had an unmistakable beautiful laugh. She was a devout Catholic and had a firm belief that she would see her lost loved ones in heaven one day. She and Rafael taught Sunday school at Dolores Catholic church for several years before moving to Round Rock, Tx. in the early 90’s. She remained a resident of Round Rock and a parishioner of St. Williams Catholic Church for the next 30 years.
Her smile, laughter and hugs will be greatly missed as we continue life’s journey without her. She was an amazing daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. It brings us peace to know she is in God’s kingdom and reunited with her mother, sister and most desperately missed, her only son Danny.
Visitation will be held at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North Interstate 35 Pflugerville, Texas 78660, on Sunday, August 23, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary starting at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. William Catholic Church in Round Rock, Texas at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, August 24, 2020.
