He was a loving, caring and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle who treasured his family, faith and friends.
Lou was born on December 8, 1933, in Chicago, Illinois. He was the third son born to Louis George and Ida Maria (Bratti) Munin and had two much beloved older brothers Eugene and Arthur.
On May 14, 1960, Lou married Audrey Ann McGuire at St. Rita Church in Chicago, Illinois. For 64 years he and his beloved wife Audrey shared their love with each other and their family and friends.
Lou (Papa) cherished his 4 children and their spouses, 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; daughters Mary Lou and husband Tom, Ann-Marie and husband Chris; sons Paul, and Louie and wife Holly; grandchildren Megan and husband Eric, Kate, Hanna, Bo, Audrey, Charlie and great-grandson Henry. His entire extended family played a special role in Lou’s heart with summer vacations, weddings and special events making memories together.
Lou graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1951and was further educated at DePaul University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting with honors.
After serving in the Army, he passed the CPA exam and joined the auditing firm of Arthur Anderson & Co., in Chicago, Illinois.
Lou left public accounting in 1965 and for more than 30 years he was employed with Lafarge Cement Company (and its predecessor General Portland Cement Company) as their Controller, Vice President of Finance, Chief Financial Officer and ultimately on the Board of Directors.
In 1967 he and his young family moved with a corporate relocation to Dallas, Texas which became home for the next 40 years. He immediately immersed himself in the local church, friends and sports teams (especially the Dallas Cowboys!). Many wonderful, lifelong relationships and memories were made then. Lou was always proud of his Italian heritage and would seek out a good Northern Italian restaurant in every locale he lived or visited!
While in Dallas Lou enjoyed being active and being outdoors. He frequented the Cooper Aerobics Center, spent many afternoons fussing over his beautiful plants and flower beds, and frequently he could be found at the barbeque grill cooking for the family.
Lou and Audrey moved to Austin, Texas in 2009 to be closer to their family and growing number of grandchildren. Once again, his caring and outgoing demeaner endeared him to the new local friends and parish.
Charitable giving of both time and treasure was an important practice for Lou. He and Audrey’s primary focus has been on catholic education, the clergy and those in need. Recipients include St. Rita Church, Ursuline Academy, Jesuit College Prep, Bishop Dunne High School, and Austin Street Shelter – Dallas, TX; Mt Carmel High School – Chicago, IL; St. Theresa Catholic Church, San Juan Diego High School, and the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist – Austin, TX.
