Linda was born on January 7, 1957, at Ellington Air Force Base, Harris County, Tx, to Orland Claudis Melton and Mary Adeline Goehring Melton. She graduated from John H. Reagan High School in 1975. She met Bill in 1973, and they married on August 10, 1974, the summer before Linda’s senior year. Bill had to promise Mr. Melton that he would get Linda to school and see that she graduated. They made their first home in Austin, then built their current home in Pflugerville in 1986. There, they raised Valerie and Ryan while they both worked, were involved with youth sports, and balanced many other family activities. She worked all of her adult life in banking, sales, and accounting fields. She was most recently employed at Elder Mitsubushi, where she was admired and will be greatly missed. She was looking forward to retiring next year. Linda and Bill were married for 47 years.
She will be greatly missed by her husband, children, grandson, family and many longtime friends, including Laura Williford of Nacogdoches, Tx who was her dearest friend for over 55 years.
The family held private services at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home. A public Memorial Service will be held on April 29, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3003 Northland Dr, Austin, Tx 78757.
Those lucky enough to have known and to be loved by Linda knew her as a funny, quirky, and talented lady. She was a gifted painter, quilter, seamstress, stained glass artist and crafter of many kinds. Each of her designs had a whimsical flair, sometimes contemporary, sometimes vintage, but always Linda. If you were lucky enough to spend time with Linda, she made you feel that you were the only person in the room.
She was truly a best friend. She remembered birthdays, anniversaries, sent cards, made phone calls, remembered your favorite things, and always went out of her way to provide a special touch to even the quickest encounter.
She was tiny in stature, but mighty in spirit and determination. She loved Jesus, family, and those in her inner circle.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
"He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." (Revelation 21:4)
