

LaNelle Emolyn Knebel, age 85, of Pflugerville passed away January 30, 2014. LaNelle was born on May 14, 1928, in Pflugerville, Texas to Edgar and Emma Pfluger Weiss. On December 10, 1947 she married Burwell “Tuff” Knebel, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, brother Marvin Weiss, sister Mildred Ward, and brothers-in-law Paul Knebel Jr. and Thomas Norvell Ward.
Her mother passed away when she was only four. Her father along with aunts helped raise her and her siblings. She picked up her cooking and cleaning skills from Aunt Olga Weiss Pfluger whom she remembered fondly and talked about often.
LaNelle graduated from Pflugerville High School in 1945 and then went to work for C.J. Kuempel, Imken & Neese Drug Store, and the United States Post Office. She then worked for 35 years as a medical assistant for Dr. S. O. Baggett, followed by 8 years for Dr. Mac Brannen, knowing and caring for so many. During all these years she only missed ½ day of work.
She loved music, singing in the Immanuel Lutheran Church choir as well as the Deutsche Pfolk Sangers and was very involved in the church as a member of the Bell Choir and Mary Church Circle. Traveling, especially her traditional family trips to South Padre Island each summer, along with cross-country road trips with her sister and brother-in-law where the joys of her life. There wasn’t a beach or casino that she didn’t like. Family was a priority and many Weiss, Knebel, and “cousins” reunions with the Pfluger side of the family were attended. Additionally, she never missed an activity that her granddaughter Carol was involved in and was known as the honorary “granny” at all games.
LaNelle was known for her distinct style. You would never see her without her make-up, perfect hair, matching clothes and coordinating jewelry…and lots of it. She was lovingly known as both the scarf and margarita lady to her South Padre Island “family”. You could find her sunbathing with her sister, bargain shopping at Solo Serve, or dancing the Chicken Dance.
LaNelle’s pride and joy were her granddaughter, Carol, and her great grandchildren. She awaited anxiously the birth of each and they were the topic of each of her conversations.
LaNelle is survived by her daughter Jan Selman and husband Dwain; granddaughter Carol Wolfe and husband Tyler; great-grandchildren Kensingtyn, Preston, Lexington and Maddigan; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Weiss and Elaine Knebel; nieces Lana Forgy and husband Bruce, Janice Fuchs, Charlotte Havins and husband Jimmy Don; great-nieces Jennifer Scott and husband Shane, Ashley Forgy; great-nephews Brandon Fuchs, Tyler Havins and Travis Havins.
Pallbearers will be Bruce Forgy, Brandon Fuchs, Shane Scott, Scott Hickman, Nick DePrimio, and James Selman.
Visitation will be from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 2, 2014 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral home in Pflugerville.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 3, 2014 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pflugerville with burial to follow at the church cemetery.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all those that visited and cared for LaNelle during her last 10 years of ups and downs especially during her time at Pflugerville Care Center. There are so many people to thank and not enough space to do so.
