December 27, 1950 – November 27, 2023
Kathryn Anne Sueltenfuss Rice, 72, of Austin, went to be with the Lord while peacefully sleeping at home. She is survived by her husband Jim Rice of 52 years, and their two children Stephen Rice (wife Barbara) and Carolyn Carrasco (husband Carlos) and grandchildren Waylon, Lucas, and Elizabeth. She is also survived by her two brothers, Paul, Gene, and her sister, Carolyn, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Kathy was born a native Texan in Dallas in 1950. Moving around Texas, the family went to Victoria in 1955, then Waco in 1959, and San Antonio in 1963. The University of Texas at Austin was the next move after graduating high school in 1969. She graduated from UT in Home Economics with Honors in 1973. She taught briefly in Austin ISD.
Kathy dated Jim in high school and college before getting married on August 21,1971. They purchased their first and current home in 1975, which at the time was far north Austin. Here, they raised their children, and became active members at Redeemer Lutheran Church. She enjoyed the many activities Austin has to offer such as swimming at Barton Springs, boating at Lake Austin, camping all over central Texas, and spending many summers in Wimberly enjoying the Blanco River. Jim and Kathy spent their golden years traveling all over the United States. They were able to visit every state except Iowa. The family mourns her passing but knows she has gone home to be with the Lord and other family members.
Memorial services will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1500 W Anderson Ln., Austin, TX 78757, at 11:30 am, Wednesday December 6th with friends and family reception immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers please send donations to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society which Kathy lived with, and would like to help others, and hopefully find a cure. https://www.nationalmssociety.org/Donate
