Katherine Lee Novak

She moved to Austin, Texas with her parents in 1946, where her father was a professor at the University of Texas. Katherine graduated from Austin High School and the University of Texas with a Degree in Education. She taught Special Education in the Austin Independent School District and was honored number of times as an outstanding teacher.

Katherine loved her students and their parents loved her as well. After retirement, she and her husband Paul, a retired Naval officer, traveled the world together. Following Paul’s death in 1993, Katherine moved to San Angelo, where she was active supporting airmen and their families at Goodfellow Air Force Base.

Katherine’s parents and her son, Charles E. Kelley, also preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughters Katherine Lee Shugart and Mari Lynn Johnson; three granddaughters, Christie Polanco, Katherine Tulmo and Shelby Johnson; and two great-granddaughters, Diana Polanco and Danielle Cardenas.

A special thanks to the nurses and staff at Arbor Terrace Healthcare Center in San Angelo for their care of Katherine over the last several years.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery, 14501 North Interstate 35 in Pflugerville. In lieu of flowers, you may make contributions to the USO or your favorite charity.
