Joyce Sturdivant Barker

She was born on December 13, 1932, in Temple, Texas to Freddie Bib and Bertie Bell Sturdivant.

On September 18, 1954, Joyce married Carl Louis Barker of Austin. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Louis, her brother, Lee Sturdivant.

Joyce is survived by her son Carl Wayne Barker, and daughter, Nancy Hansen and her husband Bobbie; five grandchildren: Amber Barker Ammann and spouse Chris Ammann, James Ross Barker, Zoya Barker, Michelle Hansen, Amanda Lynn Hansen Geer and her spouse Keith Geer; and two great-grandchildren, Christopher Ammann and Logan J. O’Toole. Joyce was also survived by her sisters, Virginia Sturdivant Woods, Vera B. Scott, and her brother Dwight Sturdivant and his wife Judy and sister-in-law Patsy Sturdivant.

For over 50 years, Joyce and Carl owned and operated, the Barker Wallboard Supply Company, retiring in 1997. She had been active in Windsor Park Baptist Church. Presently, she is currently a member of First Baptist Church Pflugerville, played handbells and active in the choir.

For more than 50 years, Joyce was a member of the Travis Chapter #472 order of the Eastern Star of Austin, Texas.

Joyce’s family will receive friends on Monday, October 25, 2010 between 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 26, 2010, at 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of Pflugerville , 306 South 10th Street, Pflugerville, with Reverend Daniel Roucloux officiating. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.

Honoring Joyce as pallbearers will be Ross Barker, Michael Miller, Carlton Scott, Chris Ammann, Keith Geer and Hilan Priddy. Bobbie Hansen will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
