Johnny E. Slaughter, Jr.

Johnny E. Slaughter, Jr., age 65, passed away on January 14, 2021 in Houston, Texas. He was born on June 22, 1955 in Lubbock, Texas as one of nine children to his parents, Johnny and Dorothy Slaughter, who both preceded him in death.

Johnny attended public schools in Lubbock and graduated from Dunbar High School in the class of 1974. A few years later, he met and fell in love with Gayle Foster. Johnny gained a beautiful wife and step-son the day he married Gayle in 1982 in Austin, Texas which is where they ended up relocating to.

Johnny was a loyal man of faith and regularly attended nondenominational churches throughout his lifetime. He had a deep passion for food and cooking which led him to working as a Chef. He also was a very family oriented man and loved spending time with his family and friends.

Left behind to cherish Johnny’s memory is his loving wife of 39 years, Gayle Slaughter; their three sons, Tyrone Walker Slaughter, Jontae Slaughter, and Kelvy Foster; and their grandchildren, Bailey Slaughter, Jaydan Slaughter, Atlas Slaughter, Shanita Ross, Keyala Foster, and Kelvy Foster, Jr. He is also survived by his eight siblings: Edna Ellis, Brenda Slaughter, Albert Slaughter, Edward Slaughter, Wayne Slaughter, Rita Martin Slaughter, Henry Andre Slaughter, and Reginald Person; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will all miss him dearly.

A visitation for family and friends will be held to honor Johnny from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Sunday, January 24, 2021 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville, Texas. The funeral service will immediately follow beginning at 12:00 p.m. in The Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Archie Kelly, Jr. officiating. Johnny will then be peacefully laid to rest in Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
