John graduated from East Texas Baptist College where he met the love of his life, Rosalyn Barr. He began his career as a Social Worker for the Texas Department of Public Welfare. His employment path eventually led him and his family to Austin, Texas in 1962. John’s work with the elderly continued under the Department of Health and Human Services. He had extensive knowledge of Federal and State regulations, supervised a team of medical professionals and was responsible for inspecting nursing homes throughout Central Texas until his retirement in 1992.
John was a resident of the Mueller area for 55 years and a regular patron of all the local restaurants. They knew him by name and knew exactly what he was going to order.
John was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Rosalyn Lanier; his parents, Lena Ray and John H. Lanier and his brother, Phillip Lanier. He is survived by his daughter Sharon Erickson and husband Wally; son Rev. Greg Lanier and wife Dawn; grandchildren Amy Klaus and husband Justin; Adam Erickson and wife Kassie; Blake, Mason and Sarah Bohls; and great grandchildren Kyler and Raven Klaus and Briggs Erickson.
The family would like to thank the IMC staff at Seton Main for the loving care he received the past few weeks, with special thanks to Dr. Mary Beth Cishek.
Visitation will be held Sunday, April 22, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. A Celebration of John’s life will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 23, 2018 at Shepherd of the Hills Christian Church, 6909 West Courtyard Dr., Austin, Texas 78730.
