She was born in Lingo, New Mexico on July 8, 1934 to Bertie Maude Harstell and Joseph Monroe Strawn. Jodie graduated from Kyle High School at 16 years old as the Valedictorian. She went on to attend Southwest Texas State Teacher’s College.
Jodie married the love of her life, Hilliard Brooks Smith, on October 3, 1953. Her career was in Early Childhood Education, where she worked for Victoria ISD, First Presbyterian Church and St Martin’s Lutheran School. She was a member of Crestview Baptist Church. Her passions were sewing, art (including painting and stained glass) and anything to do with children. She loved her grandchildren tremendously.
She is survived by husband, Hilliard B Smith; sons, Russell Strawn Smith and his spouse, Barbara Samuelson, and Kevin Smith, and his spouse, Teri Hoerman Smith, daughter, DeeAnn Smith McDonald, her spouse Chris McDonald; she is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and sister, Fran Dumas, of Round Rock.
There will be a visitation 10:00am on Monday, September 4, 2023 in the Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, with the Funeral Service starting at 11:00am . The interment will immediately follow in the Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
