Jamhal attended Austin ISD schools and Texas State Technical College. He was baptized at an early age by Pastor Raymond Scott of Goodwill Baptist Church in Austin. As a child Jamhal loved playing with cars. He began tinkering with them and wanted to be like his maternal great-grandfather Elvin Steen. His passion for cars ended up being a career. He managed and operated several automobile businesses in Austin and Lago Vista.
Jamhal was loved and cared for by many whether blood related or not. To him they were family and he made himself available to help as needed. Jamhal cherished family gatherings and made sure his children knew their family. He taught them to look out for each other and others especially the older members of the family.
