Janice transitioned to her eternal home on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at the age of 80. She was born on September 12, 1940 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Christine Lowery and James Benson. Due to the untimely death of both parents, Janice and her twin sister were adopted by James and Gertrude Hubbard.
In 1963, Janice received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Huston-Tillotson College. She moved to Los Angeles, California where she taught Pre-Kindergarten for the Head Start program for over 20 years. In 1989, she moved back to Texas, and in later years, her love for children prompted her to work in the foster grandparent program. She was an active member of Mount Olive Baptist Church where she served in the Mission, Choir, and Sunday School. One of her favorite past-times was crocheting, a hobby she continued as long as her hands would allow. Over the years, many of her friends and loved ones were gifted with her crocheted blankets.
Janice leaves to mourn her daughter and son-in law, Bridgett and Marcus Cooper; her son, Charles Clark; grandchildren, Megan, Marissa, and Samuel; her beloved twin sister, Rev. Bernice Benson Wells; along with extended family, Eric and Dorothy Wells and family, and Hazel McCullough.
Graveside services will begin at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 4, 2021 at the Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas.
Due to the current COVID protocols, guests are required to wear protective face masks at all times and practice the recommended six foot social distancing.
