Jim served twenty years in the United States Air Force where he was stationed overseas in Korea, Canada, the Philippines, Alaska and twice in Vietnam. His was stationed stateside in Texas, Mississippi, North Dakota, Michigan, Florida, Minnesota and Montana, where he retired. After retirement, he was a police officer in Choteau, Montana. He returned to Iowa working at Viking Pump until medical retirement. Jim was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus and served as an usher for many years during Sunday service at Saint Albert the Great Catholic Church in Austin Texas. He partnered with his wife, Karon, for Unitas pre marriage counseling and Retrouvaille marriage counseling and served as a Eucharistic minister in nursing homes.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jean Marie Hays and father, Curtis Edward Nichols. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Karon Gloor Nichols and sons Jim, wife Cheryl, Chuck, wife Maureen, Fred, wife Karen, and Terry as well as 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; brothers Mike Nichols, Kenny Nichols; sisters Annette Harberts, Mary Duetsch, Kathleen Nichols, Roberta Nichols and 19 nieces and nephews.
Any memorials may be sent to the home and where they will be donated to the church.
