Buster was a member of a large family who were original settlers in the town of Kingsville, Texas.
He graduated from Texas A&I University of Kingsville. He met Alice Savage in college. They were married June 7, 1941. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Alice Savage Moore.
He is survived by his two children and five grandchildren; daughter, Kathy Waldron and husband Steve and their children, Stephanie, Don and Doug; and son, James H. Jr. and his wife Candice and their two daughters, Molly and Lydia.
After graduation from college, Buster went to work for Humble Oil & Refining Company, now Exxon. Shortly after going to work, he joined the Navy and served in naval intelligence during World War II. After the war, he re-joined Exxon and retired from Exxon after 37 years of service. He was assigned several management positions in Exxon Marketing.
Buster retired from Exxon in 1977, and he and his family moved to Lago Vista. He was very active in community affairs. His first assignment was with the Old Mud No. 1 Utility District, serving on the Board of Directors. He also served approximately 8 years on the Architectural Control Committee, controlling building height, size, set-backs, and other building aspects, along with three or four other members of the community. Buster was also instrumental in forming the Lago Vista Property Owner’s Association. He served on its Board of Directors for three terms, serving one term as President.
Buster later became involved in the formation of the city of Lago Vista. His first primary job was to coordinate elections to first form four separate villages, and then merge them into one city.
Buster was an active member of the Travis Oaks Baptist Church. He served as their Chairman of Finance Committee, Treasurer, Cashier, as well as serving on one of the building committees.
