Irene Worley Gibbs, 94, of Round Rock Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on May 29, 2022.
Irene was born in Wayne County, Michigan on September 25, 1927. She graduated from Bainbridge High School, in Bainbridge, Indiana in 1946. She enrolled at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana and then Johnson Bible College (now known as Johnson University) in Knoxville, Tennessee where she received a Ministerial Bachelor of Arts degree in May 1950, and a Medical Missions Certificate from Platte Valley Bible College in Scottsbluff, Nebraska in 1954..
She was married to the love of her life, Harold Phillips Gibbs, on May 30, 1948 in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Irene worked in Christian Ministry as a missionary in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico for five years (1954 -1959) and a missionary-teacher at Colegio Biblico in Eagle Pass, Texas for 38 years (1959 – 1997) where she taught “Children’s Ministry” and typing while also managing the book store on campus. Upon retirement in 1997, after 43 years of Christian service, Irene and her husband moved to Round Rock, Texas.
At the time of her passing Irene was a member of Community Christian Church of Round Rock, Texas.
Her lifetime passion was for her family and teaching the Bible to young Spanish-speaking students from Mexico, Central and South America. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and sewing when she had spare time. She loved camping at Garner State Park, where she would gather with her children and grandchildren most years in the summer, usually around 4th of July. She also loved getting together with extended family, who are spread mostly across the northern and eastern United States.
Irene is survived by her sister Geraldine Malone of Waco, Texas, her five children, Steve (wife Shirley), Richard (wife Anna), Gary (wife Theresa), Vickie (husband Gabriel Segura) and Randy, twenty-two (22) wonderful grandchildren, thirty-five (35) great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews all of whom she dearly loved.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Phillips Gibbs, her father and mother, James and Loranza Worley, her brother and sister-in-law, Harold & Nancy Worley, her sister and brother-in-law, Anna Ruth and Joe Cummings, her daughter and son-in-law, Raquel and Johnny Reyes, her granddaughter Kim Meyer and great-grandson Hudson James Gibbs.
A visitation with family will be held at Cook Walden /Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 N IH 35, Pflugerville, TX 78660 on Tuesday, June 7, 2022. A memorial service and celebration of Irene’s life will be held at the same location on Wednesday, June 8, 2002 followed by burial at the adjacent cemetery.
