Hugh Wilson Heflin, Jr., age 94, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2015 in McKinney, Texas surrounded by his loving family. Hugh was born November 24, 1920, in Austin, Texas to Hugh Sr. and Fay Heflin. He graduated from Austin High School in 1938 and soon thereafter joined the U.S. Army and served in the 878th Ordinance Company stationed in North Africa during World War II. Upon his return home, Hugh attended the University of Texas and graduated in 1949 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. After graduation he began his 36 year career with the Texas Board of Insurance in Austin, serving much of the time as chief engineer for the agency.
Hugh spent much of his free time at his farm near Manor, Texas, farming crops, raising livestock, fishing and gardening. He was a longtime member of Messiah Lutheran Church and more recently Abiding Love Lutheran Church. He also enjoyed his hobbies of bowling and traveling.
Hugh was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Jo Beth Heflin and sister, Fay. He leaves to cherish his memory son, Robert Heflin and wife, Lucy of Sugarland, Texas; daughter, Ann Heflin Steed and husband, John of McKinney, Texas; and three grandchildren. Hugh was a faithful husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.
A service to celebrate Hugh’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2015 at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville, Texas. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made in Hugh's name to Abiding Love Lutheran Church, 7210 Brush Country Road, Austin, Texas 78749.
