On October 4, 1930 Helen Lyons Hargis was born to EP and Emma (Grant) Lyons, who proceeded her in death. Also, proceeding her in death were her husband, Odean Hargis; three brothers, Lonnie Lyons, James Elroy and Charles Orlean.
Helen Lyons attended Georgetown and Austin Public Schools. She worked for decades as assistant for Nanny Services, where she helped and took care of children.
In the midnight hour of March 6, 2018, the angel of silence came into the room of Helen Lyons Hargis and with a chilled finger sealed the lips of Mrs. Hargis – loving mother, wife, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. Her soul winged its flight from our world of sin, sorrow, and pain to a place of eternal rest.
She was a matriarch, and a counselor for the family. She kept the family together and we all knew her well for we all could go to her for a listening ear and advice. We all loved her and she loved us and she will be truly missed. She enjoyed a wonderful relationship of marriage, the love and support of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
She became a Christian at an early age and continued to serve the Lord. Sister Helen Hargis was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and attended church on a regular basis until she became ill. She served as a choir member and worked with Missions in Sarah Circle.
Leaving to mourn her departure are; four children, three boys and one loving daughter, Larry Hargis, Glen Hargis, and Anthony Hargis (wife Karen) and Myra Hargis; two sisters, Elogene Thurman and Ola Jackson; two brothers, Ray C Lyons and Melvin Lyons; 18 Grandchildren; 36 Great grandchildren; 11 Great- Great grandchildren; one very close granddaughter, Paulette Bryant-Guy; one aunt, Lola Grant Flemming; One godchild Maya Hogan; host of relatives and friends.
